It is important for you as parents and child caregivers to know that eating healthy shouldn't start when a child develops one health problem or the other. Many children die annually as a result of poor diets. I understand the place of poverty and lack of information on what is considered a good or poor diet, especially for low-income earners and those in the rural areas but we need to save the lives of these children by giving them food rich in healthy nutrients in any way we can.
A balanced diet doesn't have to be expensive but must contain different types of food with the necessary amount of nutrients to keep the child healthy. This must be included in the child's breakfast, lunch and dinner or the number of times the child eats depending on age.
Don't make mealtime 'boring' for the child and later complain that the child doesn't eat. For example, a bread and tea breakfast should include either boiled or fried eggs with chopped (puree) carrots or vegetables.
Please note that though you need to plan based on your finances, whatever you serve should be age-appropriate and must be balanced.
Remember that introducing a child to a healthy variety of foods at an early age helps to improve that child’s overall health and ultimately prevent any complications later in life.
