It's a struggle being asthmatic and surviving without constant attacks and hospital visits in today's world as a result of air pollution from human activities.

I look forward to the day when I, my twin and other children and teenagers with one respiratory problem or the other can breathe fresh air free of hazardous emissions from waste, harsh chemicals, carbon, gas and smoke.

First, we need to tackle the issue of awareness which is very low in this part of the world.

I am optimistic that the more aware people become of the consequences of their actions or inactions and embrace alternative solutions, the closer we are to having a better climate.

As a public health undergraduate, I suggest we include the school community in helping to create awareness of climate change and action. Schools at different levels can help to reach more people since they have a sizeable population of pupils, students and staff from different locations, backgrounds, social statuses and religious affiliations, hence the need to equip them with the necessary information to spread outside the school.

Let us do all we can to save our environment and keep the children healthy and alive.
