Every child has a right to quality education. The keyword here is 'EVERY. '

As the world marks the 2022 edition of the International Day of Education with the theme ''CHANGING COURSE, TRANSFORMING EDUCATION'' I want to appeal to those of you out there with an underaged male or female domestic staff/maids/nannies/cleaner etc to please send them to school.

Case in point

The picture used in this post (edited to protect the girl) was extracted from a video I recorded recently. This young girl was left in the car to care for the baby alone for over 4 hours while the baby's mother went shopping.

It was 7.30 am on a Monday and she was already out with her 'madam' without having breakfast and no possibility of going to school. A few women gathered around the girl to help pacify the baby who kept screaming for his mother.

I was furious as I searched the entire place for the woman but couldn't find her son, I waited patiently for her till she casually strolled back 35minutes later and I gave her a piece of my mind.

Why is this girl not in school and why leave this baby in her care with no clue on what she should do when the baby cries etc? I asked.

I was ready for her outburst or the typical "mind your business" response but to my surprise, she appreciated all I did and apologised for her actions.

Call to Action

There are many girls like her out there and It breaks my heart to see them running errands when they should be in school with their mates. Remember, they are not at fault for being in such a position and should not be made to suffer or deprived of quality education

You can help put an end to child labour and abuse by empowering that child through education. If you must educate one, please do so without any form of discrimination by not sending that child to a school that you wouldn't take your biological child to.

Please, empower that young boy or girl in your care today through quality education (formal or vocational) and never stop encouraging him or her to continue even when it seems difficult and they want to give up.

Equip that child today with quality education for easy access to quality life.
